Private roads and bin pickup in Westlake Village

Most Westlake Village gated communities are built on private roads. WM trucks won't drive private roads — insurance and access agreements differ from public-street routes. So bin pickup happens at designated transfer points or property-line drop-offs, not at the curb directly.

In Lake Sherwood, bins go to the end of your driveway where it meets the private road. WM picks up from there in the morning, leaves the empty bin at the same spot, and you (or we) move it back to storage.

Westlake Island has eight or nine consolidated transfer points around the island. Residents bring bins to the closest point Tuesday night, WM hits the points Wednesday morning, residents pull bins back same day.

The transfer-point model adds 20-30 minutes of work per pickup compared to a normal curb. That's exactly what residents pay us to absorb. Westlake Village can-to-curb handles the whole transfer-point dance.
